Theological College

Myanmar Theological College

Myanmar Theological College is sponsored by Methodist Church ( Upper Myanmar ). The Church was founded by British Methodist Missionary Society in 1887. Fifty years later they established a good Bible Training School in 1937. The school was closed during the World War II. After the war the school resumed and run slow and steady under the principalship of Revd Dennis Reed. Then it was called Theological Training Institute (TTI) because the students were ministerial candidates, sponsored by their respective synods. After 1987 the Church (Conference) upgraded the school to college level called Myanmar Theological College (MTC) offers L.Th. and B.Th. programmes. From that time the college accepts not only Methodist minister candidates but also those who are willing to join the college no discrimination of denomination, color or race. The college offers BRE programme 2 years course was inaugurated in 1997 and M.Min programme one year course was inaugurated in 2003.

Tahan Institute of Theology

Historical Background

About four decates ago, Rev. Leslie George Cowell, M.A. and his colleagues, missionaries of The Methodist Church Overseas Division, London founded the Methodist Theological School in Tahan. It was in 1955 and the objective was to train Lay Pastors and Local Preachers. However, it was discontinued after the missionaries left the unfinished task of the ministry in Tahan Mission Area because of the political situation of Burma in 1965.

By the Grace of God, the 1999 Synod of the Methodist Church ( Upper Myanmar ), Tahan District considered to service the former Methodist Theological School . Therefore, it has since been reopened this TAHAN INSTITUTE OF THEOLOGY (T.I.T.). The opening ceremony of T.I.T was held on June 1, 2000 with thirty-five students.

The Methodist Church , Tahan District founded the T.I.T. to provide the needs of Christian Young People. They are thirsty for education as Secular Colleges and Universities have not been opened regularly since 1988. Most of Christian Young people, therefore, want to study Theology and to prepare themselves for His Service. Thus we could say, “The awakening of Theological Education age is arriving in Myanmar .” Praise the Lord!

The T.I.T. committed to provide its students with the academic foundation and theological perspective skills necessary to assume leadership and teaching position in the Seminaries and Bible Colleges and also to serve the Lord through the Church. The T.I.T. welcomes students from all faiths and all races. The T.I.T. trusts in God for her future. The T.I.T is affiliated with Myanmar Theological College , Mandalay , and a member of Association of Thelogical Education in Myanmar (ATEM).
